Senior Director, Product Safety and Technical Public Policy

Don Mays is Senior Director of Product Safety and Technical Policy at Consumers Union (CU), publisher of Consumer Reports. He leads the organization’s product safety program, designed to reduce the number of unsafe products in the marketplace. He has more than 30 years experience in consumer product testing and laboratory management. For public outreach, Mays represents Consumers Union on matters of product safety and directs the Consumer Reports Safety Blog.

He currently serves on the board of directors of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and is Vice-Chair of ANSI’s Consumer Interest Forum. He is also an active member of the International Consumer Products Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO) and serves on the Executive Committee on Consumer Products for ASTM-International, a leading standard-setting organization. He holds a master's degree in mechanical engineering.
