Rob Schneider

Senior Director, External Affairs

Mr. Schneider manages Consumers Union’s External Relations division, recruiting and nurturing strategic partners for Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports. He also oversees grassroots and online advocacy efforts, and CU’s campaigns on financial services and food and product safety. He works out of the Yonkers, NY, office of CU.

During his 20 years at Consumers Union, he has been an effective advocate on a broad range of consumer issues such as financial services, insurance, and prescription drug safety. He has overseen CU’s campaign efforts working to improve food and product safety, stop hospital-acquired infections, improve financial security, and strengthen prescription drug oversight.

Prior to joining Consumers Union in 1988, Mr. Schneider worked in the financial services industry. He left Consumers Union to serve as an Associate Commissioner for Consumer Protection at the Texas Department of Insurance, overseeing that agency’s public education, complaint resolution, and information line. Returning to Consumers Union in 1994, he worked on financial services, insurance and a variety of consumer matters, lobbying the Texas legislature. In 2004 he relocated to Consumers Union Yonkers, NY, office to initiate the Prescription for Change campaign, and then directing all of Consumers Union’s state-based advocacy efforts.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin in an interdisciplinary honors program, Plan II and his J.D. from the University Of Texas School Of Law.
