The Consumer Policy Institute (CPI) is a division of Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports. Located in Yonkers, NY, the CPI does research, education and policy analysis on topics of interest to consumers. The CPI currently focuses on issues of food safety, sustainable consumption, and economic justice. We publish in print and on line, organize and speak at conferences, communicate through news media, testify at government hearings, submit comments in regulatory proceedings, and serve on expert panels, in New York State, before Congress and US government agencies, and at international bodies. Currently, particular areas of interest include genetically engineered food, mad cow disease, bacteria in food, organic standards and other environmental labels, and recycling and waste management.
