Consumers Union's West Coast Office (WCO), based in San Francisco, is a leading advocate for consumers in California, particularly those earning low and moderate incomes. Founded in 1975, the WCO is one of three advocacy offices in the U.S. maintained by Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports.

The WCO represents the interests of consumers on a wide variety of issues in the state legislature, regulatory agencies, and the courts, and has helped win numerous consumer protections in California that led to similar reforms in other states and in Congress. Among its top priorities, are working for affordable and high quality health care, encouraging fair and equal access to insurance, capital and other financial services, and protecting consumers from abuses in the marketplace.

Other ongoing concerns include food and product safety, court secrecy, electricity deregulation and corporate accountability. In addition, the WCO's Charitable Health Assets Project works nationwide to protect community health assets when nonprofit health care companies become for-profit companies and has helped preserve billions of dollars for community health projects around the country.
