Live From National Conference for Media Reform Posted by Bob at 01/12/07 01:56 PM

We're blogging to you live today from the National Conference for Media Reform in Memphis.

This is the third NCMR conference and the biggest yet, with more than 3,000 media activists, journalists and various hangers on attending the three days of speeches, seminars and schmoozing about everything from net neutrality to media ownership.

Legendary journalist Bill Moyers got things off to a rousing start this morning in a speech where he compared the current climate of consolidating media with the old plantations of the south. You can watch streaming live video of many of the sessions by clicking here. We suspect the Moyers speech will be up there later. It's worth watching if you care at all about media and communication issues.

We also want to point you to some new studies that dismantle the arguments being made by big media companies for further loosening of the Federal Communications Commission's already anemic media ownership rules. You can view those studies by clicking here.

We will be checking in later with more news from NCMR.

Are there really any resources online to aid in weeding out high speed internet providers that charge high termination fees in the Central Florida area? I think not. This is a great disadvantage the consumer must deal with, no matter what organizational memberships they might maintain in good standing. Are you listening Consumers Union?

And what is this?:

Is this Consumers Union's way of filtering out un-wanted comments about THEIR services?

This was not an "again" posting. It was the ONLY posting I've ever made on this BLOG.

Read a cool novel about, can you believe it, media reform. Author takes on a fascinating twist to reform by creating a media detective. Thought your folks would be interested. You can find it at http://randygarsee.blogspot.com.
