Accept our Thanksgiving Local and Organic Food Challenge! Posted by mitcka at 11/13/08 12:18 PM

In partnership with the Eat Well Guide, we invite you to find new sources for local or organic ingredients for your Thanksgiving dinner, then join our famous chefs and share a recipe! Here's what Eat Well has to say about the Challenge.

If you are looking for simple recipes to turn your locally grown ingredients into a fantastic meal, here's a great post from last Thanksgiving over at Low Impact Living. These recipes use just a few ingredients to save money and highlight the locally grown items you buy. If you really want to save money, check out Epicurious' Thanksgiving for eight people for under $80! You can use your organic or local ingredient in any of these dishes. If you can't go for the expensive heritage turkey, they walk you through the organic and free range supermarket options.

This may be the season for locally grown ingredients to return to our holiday tables in abundance. The Center for Food Safety, in conjunction with The Cornerstone Campaign, created the Cool Foods Campaign with this great Thanksgiving tips page for creating a great, low cost feast using locally grown foods that will also reduce your individual contribution to global warming. Here's what they have to say about this holiday:

Take this opportunity to celebrate as those pioneers did: with the local foods and flavors in your region. You’ll be keeping your dollars local (while spending less at farmers markets), supporting seasonal and small-scale agriculture, and enjoying the amazing (and natural) gifts available in your own backyard!

If you live in the city, you may not feel close to your local farmers, so events are springing up around the country to introduce shoppers to those nearby who feed us. Chicago Mom brings us this coverage of the upcoming FamilyFarmed Expo in Chicago.

Kristen over at ModernEcoHomes has these great tips for a Thanksgiving feast that's good to eat and healthful for the earth. Green SAHM reminds us that we can decorate our table with things we have close to hand, we can borrow rather than buy, we can compost or recycle.

So, with all these tips and tools, it's time to plan our holiday feast!

In honor of Thanksgiving, Sarah Palin performed one of our favorite traditions, pardoning a turkey. That's great and heartwarming and all. Consider a cash advance to keep things in place this holiday season before slaughtering a living thing on television. Did you see Sarah Palin’s Thanksgiving turkey video? It seems like the Alaska Governor was having a good time exercising her “governor duty” by saving a lucky turkey from the chopping block. The sacrifice of the turkey was only to express her thanks and appreciation to have a healthy family and to dwell on the land of opportunity. As Palin delivers a moving oratory for the life of the beleaguered bird, what you do see is something that encourages the total opposite; a bird being slaughtered! She told reporters that “this was neat” and “at least this was fun.” With this turkey slaughter broadcasted across the country, it should probably make you think, “Will she be aware of her surroundings if or when she decides to plow her way back into the 2012 presidential election?” She may be able to save Joe the Sixpack, but what will happen to Johnny Longneck? Well, if you ask me, I’m sure he’ll be looking into getting his hands on a fast cash advance for a plane ticket to Canada.

Healthy living is a way to increase you lifespan. We must begin through eating healthy foods that are rich on proteins and minerals. Eat a lot of vegetable they are quite cheaper and more nutritious then can goods. Remember it cost you a lot to get sick. Cinco de Mayo is a cause for celebration, but this Cinco de Mayo is a day for laments as there is a new round of Microsoft layoffs. A new batch of Microsoft layoffs is not good news, especially not for those afflicted. Layoffs are fairly new to Microsoft, only going through them for the first time a couple of months ago. Last time they gave their employees some generous cash advances. Some people say that Microsoft is to blame, but we all know it's the economy's fault. Some will no doubt need debt relief and a few rounds with Jose Cuervo after the Microsoft layoffs.
