Make The Call With Us Posted by Tim at 01/27/09 03:45 PM

I called my kids’ high school today to see if the cafeteria was using the two kinds of bulk peanut butter that have been sickening and killing people across the country due to salmonella contamination. I spoke to the school’s food service manager. He said that he buys from a big distributor, had heard about the recall from news accounts, and had checked to make sure the distributor was not selling the recalled brands. Calling schools and nursing homes to ensure our loved ones are safe from contaminated foods is important since the FDA is under funded and has too little staff to inspect facilities frequently and pull all dangerous products from the food supply. Congress should give more money to FDA so that it can do its job properly. In the meantime, it’s up to citizens to get the word out and make sure kids and the elderly are protected from salmonella in peanut butter.
