Prescription for Change

Americans shouldn’t sacrifice freedoms—giving up dreams of a better education or another child, or staying in jobs and relationships we dislike—just because we don't have health insurance or fear losing it.

PrescriptionforChange.org, sponsored by Consumer Reports Health, is dedicated to getting each of us the affordable, quality health care and coverage. We’re known for our unbiased, independent analysis of consumer products and services, and we’ve fought for decades to get you the best value and the best quality. Health care should be no different.

Help spread the word for common-sense reforms. We need your help to counter the interests of deep-pocked lobbyists for health and insurance companies.

We have developed a selection of Internet-ready public service announcements that can be used to link to Prescription for Change from any web site.

Safe Patient Project

SafePatientProject.org seeks to eliminate medical harm in our health care system through public disclosure of hospital-acquired infection rates and other incidents of medical errors.

When physicians and hospitals provide poor quality care, their patients are typically the last to know. We're working to make that information available to you. Knowing the background information on your doctor could save your life.

The campaign also works to improve drug safety by ensuring that you have full information about prescription drugs. Pharmaceutical companies should be accountable for safety problems, and not keep drug risks secret. Medical device companies should respond to malfunctioning implants. Americans have suffered and lost their lives because they are not given ALL information about risks by either manufacturers or the FDA.

Credit Card Reform

Thank you for supporting Credit Card Reform. Today’s credit card company pricing, along with the complexity of the agreements, can trap consumers in shocking rates with inadequate disclosure.

Consumers Union and other national consumer groups are supporting strong bills in Congress that would bring about real and meaningful credit card reform.
