Untitled Document "Fixing" Credit With "Credit Repair" Services

Beware of "credit repair" services that offer to "fix bad credit." The only real way to fix bad credit is to change the way you behave with credit. If your credit blemish is due to an error fix it yourself. Don't use a credit repair service to fix a mistake. There is nothing that a credit repair service can do for you that you can't do on your own for little or no cost by taking the steps outlined in the "fixing errors on your consumer credit report" section of this consumer guide.

Also, be aware that if you are disputing an item contained in a free annual consumer credit report made available under the FACT Act, you cannot dispute an error directly with a furnisher, (a provider of information to a consumer credit reporting agency), by using a credit repair service.

If you have a complaint about a credit repair service, contact your local Better Business Bureau, your state attorney general, and the FTC by telephone at: 202-FTC-HELP (202-382-4357)

Or write to the FTC at:
Federal Trade Commission
CRC-240
Washington, D.C. 20580
