Steve Dixon is a Grassroots Organizer at the West Coast Office of Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports magazine. He works to ensure that California adopts a transparent, accountable and affordable health insurance marketplace. His main focus is on implementation of California’s health insurance exchange, which was created as a result of the Federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Steve joins Consumers’ Union after more than a decade of consumer advocacy. He started his career in 1998 at New York Pirg and worked with Oregon PIRG as their Consumer Advocate from 2001-2005. He also worked for SEIU (OR State Council), Oregonians for Health Security and the Oregon and New York Legislatures.
Throughout his career, Steve has worked on financial services issues, product safety, energy and health care reform. He served as the Consumer Representative on the Oregon Insurance Division’s Advisory Committee and was the Consumer Protection Committee Administrator for the Oregon House of Representatives in 2007.
Steve is originally from New York, but moved the Bay Area after nine years in Portland, OR.
