Health and Human Services Secretary elect, Tom Daschle, called on people around the country to host health care discussions and report back to the Obama team. Here is a brief description of a group from Austin, Texas.
Informal discussions began around the areas where people were putting up notes on boards around the house. Then we gathered as a group and played Pictionary, with people drawing words or phrases that they would like to see from our health care system. The drawings included: primary care, safe, available, universal, preventive care, and affordable. Door prizes were awarded.
There are many ideas for health care reform besides expanding insurance, many ways to improve the system.
Daschle says pressure from voters right now will help put the incoming administration "on the right track" for overhauling the nation's health care system. "It will lead to members of Congress taking note. It will lead to governors taking note...It's going to lead to a greater degree of commitment on the part of elected people."
