NANCY METCALF, SENIOR EDITOR, CONSUMER REPORTS
Nancy Metcalf is Senior Editor of
Consumer Reports magazine, specializing in medical and environmental issues.
Recently she has prepared reports on medical privacy, seafood safety, menopause,
managed care prescription coverage, and pesticides on produce. Her work at Consumer
Reports has twice been a finalist for the National Magazine Award.
Before joining the magazine in 1990, she was a freelance medical writer and
contributed articles to national publications including In Health, Women's Day,
Reader's Digest, Working Mother, and Medical World News. She also was a consultant
to the Connecticut Commission on Hospitals and Health Care.
Earlier, she worked as a medical and environmental reporter and editor at the
Hartford Courant. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and the Columbia University
Graduate School of Journalism.

Marvin M. Lipman, M.D., has been
Consumers Union's chief medical advisor since 1967 and has been Medical Editor
of Consumer Reports on Health since its inception in 1989. He has represented
Consumers Union on advisory panels of the Food and Drug Administration and the
United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
He is currently a member of the board of trustees of the USP, representing the
public. The USP is an independent not-for-profit organization that sets the
official standards of strength, quality, purity, packaging, and labeling for
products used in the U.S.
A graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Lipman
is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology. He is a Fellow of
the American College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology.
He is Clinical Professor of Medicine (emeritus) at New York Medical College
in Valhalla, NY.
