Growing momentum for health reform: Statement from Consumers Union

WASHINGTON, D.C.—De Ann Friedholm, Consumer’s Union’s campaign director for health care reform, made the following statement about the Senate HELP Committee’s vote to advance health care reform out of committee, which comes on the heels of the House Democrats’ introduction bill:

“After a period when it seemed like the timetable was seriously slipping, health reform is picking up steam. The momentum for health reform is growing.

“Everyday we continue to hear from Americans who can’t get health insurance, or who can’t afford the insurance they have and fear bankruptcy. For these families, reform must happen this year. Today’s vote by the Senate committee shows that real momentum is growing in Washington for health reform to happen.”
