Consumers pay over $216 billion in financial services fees every year. There are so many different kinds of bank fees that it can be hard to determine how much a product actually costs. Some state legislatures have tried to address bank fees or give bank consumers other protections, but banks and their federal regulators are increasingly trying to use weak federal law to eliminate stronger state consumer protections.
