Letter to Timothy Geithner Re: Obama Administration’s Position on Whether States May Protect Consumers Against National Banks’ Predatory Lending

February 4, 2009
On March 25, 2009, the United States was to file a brief in the United States Supreme Court in a case that would decide states' ability to monitor and enforce mortgage lending protections, antidiscrimination laws, and other important consumer protections in the financial sector. This letter urges Geithner to consider what is at stake and reverse the ositoin of the United States, and direct that the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency rescind the regulations at issue in the case.
