Data companies promote weaker federal law

Fearing tougher state laws, the industry wants federal rules to say when they must tell consumers about violations of the security of sensitive information--and they want plenty of loopholes. A story in the L.A. Times the day after Christmas outlines the industry's goal in supporting certain federal data security reforms.

Before you whip out the plastic for holiday shopping, consider this. . . Working to pay off credit card debt is frustrating. It doesn’t mean you need to freeze your credit card in a glass of water, and make ornaments out of decoupage for everyone on your Christmas list.
