Treasury Secretary Paulson says this bailout is the only way to prevent real economic harm to our nation. But this is a lot of money. How much? Here are some other things that cost $700 billion.

Congress needs to make sure that companies and others tell us when our important data is no longer safe. The Gripeline Weblog had a story on Valentine's Day about the risk that Congress will pass a weak measure on notice of data security breaches which displaces stronger state laws.

A story in the L.A. Times the day after Christmas outlines the industry's goal in supporting certain federal data security reforms.

Before you whip out the plastic for holiday shopping, consider this. . . Working to pay off credit card debt is frustrating. It doesn’t mean you need to freeze your credit card in a glass of water, and make ornaments out of decoupage for everyone on your Christmas list.

Free isn’t always free

While there may be no such thing as a free lunch, credit reports are supposed to be free these days thanks to a new federal law. Unfortunately, the new law has prompted some scams that are cheating consumers out of this new benefit.
